Men's Soccer to Play at George Washington Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's soccer team (1-3-2) will continue its season-long four-game road swing with a game at George Washington (3-3-0) at the GW Soccer Field at the school's Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday at 3:00 pm. Live statistics and live video ($4.95) will be available.

Navy battled with No. 21 UMBC (6-0-0) on Tuesday but fell in double overtime, 3-2, to the Retrievers. Baltimore-area natives Jamie Dubyoski (Catonsville, Md.) and Dave Arnold (Baltimore, Md.) scored for Navy. Navy scored first, then got behind 2-1 before evening the game in the second half. UMBC scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute.

It was Dubyoski's team-leading third goal of the season and the sophomore is tied for third in the Patriot League in goals scored.

Senior Aaron Dupere (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) has handled the full workload in goal for Navy this season and has a 1.50 goals-against average and a .688 save percentage. Sophomore defenseman Derek Vogel (Long Beach, Calif.) leads all field players with 546 minutes played. Vogel was the 2012 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

George Washington is coming off a 2-1 loss at Saint Peter's on Wednesday. Trailing 2-0 late in the game, Tyler Ranalli scored in the 86th minute, his fifth of the year. Ranalli leads the team with 13 points.

Goalie Jean-Pierre van der Merwe made six saves against Saint Peters. van de Merwe holds a 1.00 goals-against average and a .760 save percentage. He has recorded three shutouts.

The Colonials have earned wins over Howard (2-0), VMI (4-0) and LIU Brooklyn (2-0). GW has lost to American (3-1), NJIT (1-0) and Saint Peter's.

Navy holds an 11-9-4 lead in the all-time series against George Washington. The two teams last met in 2010 in Annapolis with Navy earning a 4-0 win. Arnold, then a freshman, scored two goals in a three-minute span early in the second half. Current seniors Nick Dubee (Carolina, R.I.) and Patrick Sopko (Gloucester, Va.) recorded assists in the victory.

Navy will close its four-game road swing at Virginia Tech on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. The Navy-Virginia Tech contest will be streamed on ESPN3.com. The Mids will begin Patriot League play after the Virginia Tech game on September 28 by hosting league newcomer Boston University.
