LORETTO, Pa. - Continuing to pick up steam, Navy tallied its sixth straight win in impressive fashion over St. Francis (Pa.), 5-0, on Sunday, Sept. 22 at DeGol Field. Forward Morgan Dankanich continues to pace the Midshipmen in scoring, having tallied her seventh goal of the season.
"We did not follow our gameplan in the first half of play. We were dangerous at times, but did not have as much possession as we wanted through the first 45 minuters," said head coach Carin Gabarra. "However, we recommitted to our gameplan in the second half, which showed through our constant pressure and possession on both offense and defense for a good team win."
With today's goal, Dankanich has recorded five goals in the last six games. Lily Kraemer, Cat Macklin, Kaylie Davidson and Nikki Peterson all scored in the contest. Peterson's goal in the 88th minute was her first collegiate goal. Freshman Taylor Kipilii led Navy with two assists, which were her first two points of her career.
Navy (8-2-0) wasted very little time to get on the scoreboard with a goal in the fourth minute of the contest. Paloma Perez served up a volley for Dankanich to finish with her head to grab the 1-0 lead.
As time was winding down in the first half, Lily Kraemer added to Navy's total to extend the lead to two, 2-0. Kraemer dashed down the middle of the field, into St. Francis' (Pa.) (3-6-1) defensive third and beat Jessica Andrew for her first goal of the season.
With a 2-0 lead going into the second half, the Mids did not hold back offensively. Macklin joined the scoring parade, as she cleaned up an initial save from Andrew for her third goal of the season.
Then Davidson and Peterson tallied Navy's fourth and fifth goals in the 79th and 88th minute of the contest to wrap up the Midshipmen's sixth consecutive win.
Navy goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner recorded three saves in 87:22 minutes of play and teammate Dayton Wetherby came in for the final 2:38 to record Navy's third combined shutout and sixth overall of the season. St. Francis (Pa.) goalkeeper Andrew made three saves on eight chances in the loss.
The Midshipmen return back to Patriot League play on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Lafayette. Game is slated for 3 p.m.
