Oct. 26, 2014 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy offshore sailing team won the McMillan Cup for the 18th time in school history this weekend. Navy hosted both the McMillan Cup and the Fall Keelboat Promotional Regattas on the Chesapeake Bay with 140 athletes representing 19 different schools between the two events.
Senior Josh Forgacs led his crew to first place in the McMillan Cup, the East Coast's Big Boat Championship, winning the six-race series by a scant one point over Queens University of Canada.
The McMillan Cup is college sailing's oldest regatta, as it was first competed for in 1928. Since 1950 it has been hosted by the Naval Academy in its 44' sailboats and serves as the big boat championship for the New England and Mid-Atlantic districts.
In the Keelboat Promotional Regatta, sophomore Michael Sagan led his crew to first place as well, with freshman Teddy Papenthien and crew finishing second.
Next up for the varsity offshore sailing team is the IRC Fall Championship and the J/105 Chesapeake Championships this coming weekend.
