2014 NSCAA All-America Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy senior defender Joseph Greenspan has been named to the 2014 NSCAA All-America First Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Friday. Continental Tire is the All-America Team sponsor.

Greenspan becomes Navy's first two-time All-America selection in men's soccer since Walter Bahr in 1968 and 1969. Greenspan was named to the NSCAA All-America Third Team in 2013.

Greenspan is one of three defenders on the 12-member All-America First Team.

Greenspan was recently named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team and was also the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and an all-league first-team honoree. Greenspan is also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Award Trophy.

Navy was 11-4-5 overall in 2014 and 6-2-1 in the Patriot League. The Mids spent three weeks ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 and finished the season on an 11-game unbeaten streak.

The 6-foot-6 center back helped Navy post nine shutouts with a 0.65 goals-against average this season. He also scored four points on one goal and two assists. In 2014, Greenspan became Navy's all-time leader in career games played with 78.

He was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on October 13 and was twice named the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Week in 2014.

Greenspan earned a number of preseason honors prior to the 2014 season, including TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Best XI First Team, College Soccer News Preseason All-America First Team, Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

Greenspan finished his four-year career at Navy with 78 games played, 75 games started, 42 points, 18 goals, six assists and 6,627 minutes played. He played over 1,900 minute in each of his last two seasons.

Navy has had a total of 59 NSCAA All-America selections.
