Women's Track Places First At Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's track and field finished first at Navy Invitational Saturday at Ingram Field. Mids tallied nine first-place finishes and four ECAC-qualifying performances.

"We had a great home meet to begin the outdoor season today," head coach Carla Criste said. "Our seniors were key in our success today, which included Maressa Guynn's solid performances in both the discus and hammer throw."

Navy finished first overall in the seven-team field with 315 points. Delware finished right behind the Mids with 250.50 for second place. Maryland-Eastern Shore (87), Maryland (46), American (18), Loyola (13.5) and Delaware State (4) rounded out the field.

Senior Maressa Guynn set the pace for Navy, finishing first in the discus and hammer throw (158-4; 48.25m). Guynn's first-place discus throw of 161-10 (49.32m) broke the Ingram Field record, which was previously held by Bucknell's Amanda Mockbee 157-8 (48.06m).

Lauren Allam and Teronda Brown finished second and third in the discus throw. Both recorded ECAC-qualifying performances of 154-9 (47.17m) and 147-2 (44.87m), respectively. Alix Membreno finished first in the javelin with a mark of 139-3 (ECAC). Brown finished first in the shot put with a mark of 42-11.5 (13.09m)

Freshman Hali McFadgen had a strong performance at the meet, recording first-place finishes in the 100m hurdles and the long jump. McFadgen tallied a 18-3 (5.56m) mark in the long jump and recorded a first-place time of 15.07 in the 100m hurdles.

Christina Blair placed first in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:00.82. Paige Miller finished second with a time of 11:24.13 and Maria Arnone came in third at 11:35.35. Kathryn Quandt finished first in the 1000m run with a time of 39:42.24.

Marissa Stewart and Amanda Graham finished 1-2 in the pole vault with performances of 11-1.75 (3.4m) and 10-8 (3.25m), respectively.

Navy will look to carry its success at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 29.
