HARRISONBURG, Va. - Navy women's track and field team placed second out of four teams Saturday at the James Madison Invitational. The Mids recorded six first-place finishes and three ECAC-qualifying performances.
Navy recorded 195.50 total team points in the meet, finishing just six points behind first place Delaware (201.5). James Madison (175) and Richmond (76) rounded out the field.
"Our throwers continue to compete well meet in and meet out," Head coach Carla Criste said. "We continue to improve on the track and hopefully that will translate in a couple of weeks when we compete at the Patriot League Championships."
Navy's discus throwers had the best outing of the group for the Mids at the meet, tallying all three ECAC-qualifying performances. Maressa Guynn (167-10), Lauren Allam (165-7) and Teronda Brown (154-6) finished 1-2-3 in the dicus, all of which were ECAC-qualifying marks.
Brown continued her strong outdoor season in the shot put, finishing first in the even with a throw of 44-3.25 (13.49m). Amanda Graham and Maressa Stewart went 1-2 in the pole vault with identical marks of 11-5.75 (3.5m).
Senior Veronica Ffrench finished first in the high jump with a mark of 5-3 (1.60m). Christina Blair and Paige Miller placed 1-2 in the 3000m steeplechase with finishing times of 10:58.66 and 11:16.51, respectively.
Sophomore Meghan Harvey placed first in the 1500m run with a mark of 4:36.26.
Navy will look to improve with two meets next week. The Mids will compete at the McDaniel Twilight Meet on Wednesday then travel to the highly competitive Penn Relays, beginning on Thursday, April 24 in Philadelphia, Pa.
