PHOENIX, Md. - The Navy women's golf team placed 12th out of 15 teams at the season-opening Tignanelli Towson Invitational at the Towson Golf & Country Club on Sunday and Monday. Navy shot an overall score of 647 (324-323; +71). Junior Renata Bucher tied for eighth out of 79 golfers with a 153 (74-79; +9).

"The team did well today, shooting one shot better, 323, than the first round," head coach Nadia Ste-Marie said. "Renata [Bucher] finished tied for eighth and had her personal best two-day score. Legare [Augenstein] improved her putting today for a 78 and it was a great way to kick off the season."

Delaware and Towson tied for first place with an overall score of 608, but Delaware won the team title via tiebreaker. Long Island was third at 620. Delaware's Nathalie Filler shot a 1-under par 71 on Monday to take the individual title with a 146 (75-71; +2), two strokes ahead of second-place Mackenzie Rice of Towson (75-73=148; +4).

Navy lowered its team total by one stroke from a 324 on Sunday to a 323 on Monday to once again establish a new 18-hole team record for the second straight day. Navy also shattered its team record a 36-hole tournament with a 647, which was 47 strokes better than the 694 carded at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate in March 2014, Navy's previous team low.

Bucher broke her own program record for lowest individual two-round tournament score with her 153 (74-79). Bucher's eighth-place finish gives her three straight top-10 showings dating to last spring. Bucher shot a 158 at two separate tournaments last year.

After carding an impressive 4-over par 76 on Sunday, freshman Christine Walker turned in an 85 on Monday to finish in a tie for 44th with a total score of 161.

Navy's final three golfers all showed improvements from the first round to the second. Freshman Legare Augenstein shot a 6-over par 78 on Monday, down 10 strokes from her 88 on Sunday, to tie for 59th place with a 166.

Freshman Jane Moon shot a 9-over par 81 on Monday to finish one stroke behind Augenstein with a 167 (86-81) at 63rd place. Freshman Kellyanne Hurst rounded out Navy's contingent with a 191 (99-92) to place 79th.

Navy had three players break 80 in a single tournament for the first time in school history as Bucher, Walker and Augenstein all carded at least one round in the 70s.

Navy will next host the Chesapeake Bay Invitational from September 20-21.
