Oct. 13, 2015 ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" The Patriot League recognized Navy's Lauren Barber (Fr., New Wilmington, Pa.) as its women's swimmer of the week and Nate Belch (So., Tucson, Ariz.) as its men's diver of the week on Monday for their efforts in helping the Mids sweep a trio of foes this weekend. Additionally, Barber was selected as this week's NAAA Athlete of the Week, presented by Rolls Royce.
Barber won eight of the nine individual events she competed in during Navy's season opening competition against George Mason, East Carolina and Old Dominion. She began the weekend by earning wins in the 200 free, 200 breast and 400 individual medley events to help the Mids defeat the Patriots. Barber then won both breaststroke events and placed second in the 200 individual medley in Navy's win over the Pirates and won each of those three events against the Monarchs. She also was part of Navy's 200 medley relay teams that defeated Old Dominion and finished second to George Mason and East Carolina.
Belch, who garnered the third league diver-of-the-week accolade of his career, swept the trio of three-meter events he competed in against George Mason, East Carolina and Old Dominion. He also placed second on the one meter against the Patriots and Monarchs and third on the board against the Pirates.
Both Navy programs will compete Friday at UMBC.
