UPPER SAUCON, Pa. - The Navy women's golf team placed fifth out of nine teams at the 36-hole Lehigh Invitational on Sunday and Monday at Saucon Valley Country Club. The par-72 Grace Course played 6,012 yards for the tournament.
Navy shot an opening round of 326 on Sunday and followed with a second-round score of 329 for an overall total of 655 (+79).
Princeton won the Lehigh Invitational for the second straight year with a two-round score of 596 (296-300; +20). Host Lehigh was second with a 633, followed by Towson (637), Saint Francis U (640) and Navy (655).
Navy senior Renata Bucher led the team with a 163 (82-81; +19) to place 22nd. Sophomore Kellyanne Hurst was one stroke back with a 164 (84-80; +20) to tie for 23rd place.
Sophomore Christine Walker was one stroke behind Hurst with a 165 (82-83; +11) to tie for 26th place and sophomore Legare Augenstein tied for 30th with a 167 (78-89; +23). Augenstein's opening round of 78 is tied for the lowest round of her career.
Sophomore Jane Moon placed 39th with a 173 (88-85; +29).
Navy had two golfers, sophomore Mary Kate Nelson and junior Marci Browning, competing as individuals. Nelson tied for 48th with a 185 and Browning was 52nd with a 191.
Princeton's Hana Ku was the individual medalist in the 53-player field with a 143 (69-74; -1) and teammate Amber Wang shot an even-par 144 (71-73).
Navy's last tournament of the fall schedule will be the Delaware Invitational from Oct. 24-25 at Rehoboth Beach, Del.
"We showed good improvement with some steady play and we will be able to build on a lot of things from this tournament," said head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "I think we are moving in the right direction I am excited about Delaware this weekend. It will be a short practice week but we will look to finish the fall on a really positive note."
