ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams will open their 2015-16 seasons this weekend by competing in a pair of meets. The Mids will first face George Mason Friday at 4 p.m. in Fairfax, Va., then will play host to East Carolina and Old Dominion Saturday at noon in Lejeune Hall.

Fans attending Saturday's meet are reminded that no one without a Department of Defense identification card is allowed to drive their vehicle onto the USNA grounds. Everyone else must park outside of the USNA grounds and walk through the gate one security checkpoint. Shuttle bus service to and from the match is not available.

Navy's squads enter the season as the favorites to win the two team titles at the 2016 Patriot League Championship. The programs have swept each of the last four and five of the last six conference crowns.

The men's team returns 26 letterwinners from its 2015 squad that won Navy's 12th league championship in as many years of the Mids competing at the meet. Included among those returners are five who have won at least one league individual event title in their careers, seven who have won a relay championship and one who has earned a diving event title.

"The Navy team is pumped to begin the new collegiate season," said 13th-year head coach Bill Roberts. "This team is very focused on improving both individually and as a program. They have been working very well together and are understanding of the challenges ahead with the new season. As a result, we are looking forward to beginning our 2015-16 season this weekend."

On the women's side, Navy returns 25 letterwinners from last year's team that won the program's league-best 14th title in its 24 seasons of vying for the crown. This includes six swimmers who have won an individual event in their careers, 10 who have won at least one relay event and one who has won a diving event championship.

George Mason's men's team placed third in the Atlantic 10 Conference last year, while the school's women's squad placed sixth in the conference. Both programs were predicted to replicate their respective performances again this season.

Navy's men's team has posted a 5-0 record against the Patriots, a mark that includes a 162-133 victory last year. Navy's women's team also notched a win over the Patriots a year ago, 169-128, which gave the Mids a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series.

East Carolina's men's team won the 2015 American Athletic Conference, while its women's team placed third in the AAC.

Saturday's meet will mark the first time the Mids and the Pirates will have met since the 1980s. The most recent meet between the two men's programs was in 1989, with the women's teams last squaring off in 1986. Navy holds a 7-1 advantage in the men's series while East Carolina has won each of the previous six women's meets.

Old Dominion's women's team finished in seventh place at the 2015 Conference USA Championship. ODU's men's team, one of just three in the conference in 2015, placed second in last year's C-USA Invitational.

Saturday will be the first time Navy and Old Dominion will have met in a regular season meet.
