Nov. 24, 2015 AUSTIN, Texas - Navy women's soccer sophomore Meghan Hegarty (Richmond, Va.) earned her third academic laurel of the 2015 season, as she was named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, which was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
Hegarty is the first Navy women's soccer student-athlete since Elizabeth Hoerner (2013) and 10th different Midshipmen to be placed on the CoSIDA Women's Soccer Academic All-America squad. She was also placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-District and the Academic All-Patriot League teams earlier this season.
Hegarty has excelled in the classroom to begin her academic career at the Academy, owning a 3.95 grade-point average as an operations research major. She has been placed on the Superintendent's and Commandant's List in her first two semesters at Navy. The Richmond, Virginia, native is currently seventh out of 1158 classmates in Overall Order of Merit, first in Academic Order of Merit and second in Military Order of Merit.
On the field, Hegarty recorded career highs in all three offensive categories, which included points (14), goals (4) and assists (6). She ended the season tied-for ninth in the Patriot League in points and tied-for second in assists. Hegarty finished second on the team with two game-winning goals.
