Dec. 16, 2015 SOMERS, Wis. â€"â€" Navy's Marlin Brutkiewicz (Jr., Mobile, Ala.) earned another accolade Tuesday evening as he was selected as the TeamUnify / CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week. This is the first time he has garnered the national nod.
Brutkiewicz, who on Monday was tabbed as the Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, earned the laurel for his efforts in helping the Mids to a 213-86 victory over Army West Point. He became the third men's swimmer in the 78-year Army-Navy series to win three individual events during the meet and won four events in all on the night.
His meet began by swimming the breaststroke leg on Navy's victorious 200 medley relay team. The four swimmers combined to post a time of 1:27.37 to win the event by nearly one-half of a second. Brutkiewicz then improved his record in the breaststroke events to 18-0 this season by winning both the 100 (52.98) and 200 (1:56.00) editions of the event. He capped his night by wining the 200 individual medley in a clocking of 1:48.81.
Brutkiewicz posted NCAA B cut times in each of his three individual events, with both of his breaststroke clockings ranking fourth in school history.
Additionally, the ECAC on Wednesday recognized Brutkiewicz as its men's swimmer of the week, his teammate Nate Belch (So., Tucson, Ariz.) as its men's diver of the week, and Navy's Lauren Barber (Fr., New Wilmington, Pa.) and Julie Jesse (Sr., Edwardsburg, Mich.) as its women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.
