March 23, 2015 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team closed out its spring break week by hosting the largest and most competitive collegiate team race regatta of the year, the Graham Hall Team Race.
This year's event was especially tough with a 16-team field that many feel was more deep than the team racing nationals is likely to be.
Navy started out strong but faltered a bit late Saturday and early Sunday, dropping some close races. The team was able to close out the weekend with a 9-9 record, good enough for seventh overall.
Navy's skippers for the weekend were Mary Hall, Michael Popp, and Patrick Snow. Emma Ferris, Alex Asuncion, Connor Hendi, Charlie Peck, Aaron Hull and Peter Hogan served as crews while Philip Youngberg and Michael Madigan were on hand ready to contribute to the effort if the conditions called for them.
In the end, the event served as a great opportunity to sail a lot of races against tough opponents. The team came away from the weekend with a much better understanding of what to work on as the team moves closer to the spring championships.
