March 28, 2015 WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Navy gymnastics team had a strong showing in the individual event finals at the ECAC Championships on Saturday at Army's Gross Sports Center as Midshipmen earned eight All-Conference honors. Jonny Tang (So., Malvern, Pa.) led Navy's effort on Saturday as he earned three podium finishes, including a first-place result in the floor exercise.
With a score of 14.45 on the floor exercise, Tang gave Navy its second-straight ECAC individual event title as he followed up Mitchell Larios' (Jr., Frisco, Texas) 2014 title on the parallel bars. The sophomore gymnast also finished with all-conference honors courtesy of a 14.15 on the parallel bars and a 14.0 on the high bar. His parallel bar performance ranked Tang third overall, while his high bar routine was sixth-best.
Larios was strong once again in the ECAC individual event finals as he finished in second place in the vault with a score of 14.6, 0.3 second shy of Army's Jesse Glenn's top score of 14.9. Larios earned his second all-conference award with a sixth-place finish of 13.85 on the parallel bars.
Eric Morrison (Jr., Broomfield, Colo.) equaled Larios' runner-up performance with a score of 14.45 on the pommel horse. Springfield's Pat Ryther won the title on the apparatus at 15.0.
Two Midshipmen earned All-ECAC accolades on the rings as Thomas Goodell (Sr., Hopkinton, Mass.) and Joshua Steves (Sr., Houston, Texas) finished third and fifth overall with scores of 14.45 and 14.2, respectively.
After the completion of the meet, Zac Ceroli (Jr., Angier, N.C.) was honored as the ECAC's Most Improved Gymnast. The third-year member of Navy's squad is in his first-year of collegiate competition after serving as a manager over his first two seasons in Annapolis.
