Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Senior attack Kara Burke's game-high four goals helped #15/16 Loyola (12-4, 8-0 Patriot League) defeat the Navy women's lacrosse team (12-4, 6-2 PL), 14-4, Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Greyhounds captured their second straight Patriot League Regular-Season title and will have the honors to host the league's tournament.

"Give credit to Loyola for playing a near flawless game on the road," Navy head coach Cindy Timchal said. "This was not our day today and we will look ahead to our quarterfinal matchup against Holy Cross on Tuesday to get back on the right track."

Loyola overwhelmed Navy in the first half, holding an 8-1 lead through 30 minutes of play. Senior Annie Thomas was the Greyhounds offensive catalyst, recording all five of her assists in the first half. Loyola's offense generated 21 shots to Navy's nine.

Despite Loyola tallying eight goals in the first half, senior goalkeeper Annie Foky (Charlottesville, Va.) held her own, tallying eight saves on 16 chances and causing a turnover.

"Annie made some brilliant saves to keep the game close for us," said Timchal. "She has strung together some very strong performances and we hope she continues to sustain that success as we head into the league tournament."

The Greyhounds continued their offensive prowess in the second half, scoring the next four goals to extend their lead to 11, 12-1, with 24:45 left in the half. Burke tallied her final two goals of the contest during the run.

Navy showed some signs of life on the offensive end, tallying three of the next five goals to cut the deficit to 10, 14-4, with 3:23 left in the contest. Freshman Jenna Collins (Clarskville, Md.) scored the Mids' first goal of the run off a free-position opportunity and senior Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded her 40th goal of the season then assisted Navy's final tally to sophomore Morgan Young (Baltimore, Md.).

The Mids look to continue their scoring run in the final minutes of the contest, but Loyola goalkeeper Molly Wolfe tallied her 11th and 12th save of the game to grab the 14-4 victory.

Even though the score showed a 10-goal defeat, Navy held advantages over Loyola in ground balls, 11-9, draw controls, 11-9 and clearing percentage, 11-of-11 to the Greyhounds 16-of-22. Loyola edged the Mids in shots, 29-23.

With Navy and Colgate finishing the regular-season tied 6-2 in the league standings, the Raiders earn the number two seed due to the 10-4 victory over the Mids earlier in the season. Navy will be the number three seed and host Holy Cross on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
