April 20, 2015 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team has switched into fleet racing mode to close out the spring regular season. In the team's first fleet racing weekend, Navy hosted one big event and had another away.
At home, a last minute drop by an out of conference team allowed Navy to sail a coed team and a women's team in the Navy Spring Regatta. The 20-team field boasted many of the top sailors and teams in the country. Both Navy squads got off to a strong start in Saturday's light wind but had some struggles in the windier conditions on Sunday.
In the end, the Midshipmen finished fifth overall with Michael Popp, Megan Hough and Connor Hendi finishing seventh in A while Patrick Snow, Brittany Webb-Martin and Aaron Hull were sixth in B. Navy's women finished 10th overall, with Mary Hall, Emma Ferris and Jillian Foley finishing ninth in A division while Hannah Hughes, Alex Asuncion and Molly Robertson were 10th in B.
Up north, a young Navy team sailed at Yale University for the Owen, Mosbacher and Knapp Trophies. Navy finished eighth overall with Addison Hackstaff and Michelle Katz coming in eighth in A division while Gary Prieto and Molly Hanson were ninth in B.
