HAMILTON, N.Y. - All five of the Navy men's cross country team's scoring runners finished in the top eight en route to the Mids first-place finish at the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday.
Navy finished the meet with 27 points, which edged out second-place Syracuse (29) by two points. Bucknell (86), Albany (132) and Colgate (140) rounded out the top five. Buffalo (163), Binghamton (193) and Utica (235) capped the field of eight.
"It was a perfect place with the perfect distance and the perfect time of the year to run today," Navy head coach Al Cantello said. "This was a good start to season and we hope to take this performance into next week's home meet."
Junior Lucas Stalnaker (Tega Cay, S.C.) took home the individual title, crossing the tape at 19:55.9. Stalnaker's first-place performance earned him his first career individual meet title.
After Stalnaker, Navy's next four runners finished fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively, with 0:01.7 seconds separating the four runners. Sophomore Josh Hanna (Winfield, Kan.) led the Mids group, placing fifth with a time of 20.16.2. Junior Ryan McCoy (New Glarus, Wis.), Sam Peckham (Valencia, Calif.) and Mitchell Pratt (Temple City, Calif.) rounded out Navy's five scoring runners with times of 20:16.6, 20:16.9, 20:17.9, respectively.
Navy will prepare to host its lone home meet with the Navy Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12. The race is set to begin at 10 a.m.
