Jan. 11, 2016 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. â€"â€" Navy's David Carlson (Sr., Brielle, N.J.) has been selected as this week's Patriot League Men's Swimmer of the Week. It is the first time Carlson has garnered the accolade, which was announced Monday by the league office.
Carlson was recognized for his efforts in Navy's 173-127 loss at North Carolina Saturday. He began the meet by posting the fastest backstroke leg of any swimmer in the 200 medley relay event. Carlson's time of 23.32 for his 50 yards was nearly one second faster (0.87) than the next competitor in the field and helped the Mids win the event by 2.23 seconds with an overall time of 1:30.29.
He then swept the two backstroke events during the individual event portion of the meet. Carlson's time of 49.98 gave him the victory in the 100 back by 1.01 seconds, while his time of 1:48.36 earned him the win in the 200 back by 1.71 seconds.
Navy, 8-1 on the year, will continue its dual meet season Jan. 22 when the Mids play host to Loyola.
