UPDATED FRI., JAN. 22: NAVY HAS POSTPONED BOTH OF ITS MEETS SLATED FOR THIS WEEKEND

ANNAPOLIS, Md. ---- The Navy swimming and diving teams will continue their respective seasons Friday when the Mids play host to Loyola in a 4 p.m. meet in Lejeune Hall.

The impending winter storm could result in a change to Friday's meet. Navy's meet at home Saturday against Penn State has already been postponed. Please continue checking NavySports.com and Navy's various social media accounts for updated information.

"It will be nice to compete against a Patriot League team for the first time this semester," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison. "It's great to have Loyola back on the schedule. They always brings a very deep team and are very well coached. We will look to some new faces to step up and challenge Loyola's depth."

"The team is looking forward to competing again Friday," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "This meet is an excellent opportunity to race and compete as we look to hopefully improve upon our performances in 2016 to date."

Both Navy teams enter the weekend with identical 8-1 records this season. In their most recent meets, the Navy men lost a 173-127 decision to North Carolina on Jan. 9, with the Navy women losing to the Tar Heels by the score of 175-117.

Highlighting Navy's efforts against the Tar Heels were victories in the men's meet by Alex Nickell (Sr., Loveland, Colo.), 1000 freestyle; David Carlson (Sr., Brielle, N.J.), 100 and 200 backstroke; Jonathan Debaugh (Sr., Conroe, Texas), 200 butterfly; and Marlin Brutkiewicz (Jr., Mobile, Ala.), 200 breaststroke. Recording wins for the Navy women against North Carolina were Jenny Smith (So., Columbus, Ohio) in the 1000 freestyle and Lauren Barber in the 100 breaststroke. The Mids also placed second in four events contested on the day.

Loyola's men's team has posted a 6-4 record this season, while the school's women's squad has tallied a 6-5 record.

Friday's meet will be the first dual competition between the Mids and the Greyhounds in three seasons.

Navy's men's team returned to the national rankings this week. The Mids are ranked 24th in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll that was released Wednesday night.
