Mids Place Second at Terrapin Invitational

LANDOVER, Md. - The Navy women's track and field team finished second out of 17 teams at the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday in Landover, Maryland. Navy recorded 11 top-five performances.

"Today's meet was another step in the right directions leading into next weekend's dual meet against Army," Navy head coach Carla Criste said. "Our distance runners and throwers stepped up today to give us the majority of our points."

In the field, freshman Izzy Marini (Elkgrove, Calif.) shattered her previous season-best mark in the weight throw, recording a fourth-place throw of 52ft-4.75in (15.97m). Marini's fourth-place throw was 4ft-6in farther than her previous mark set at the George Mason Invitational on Jan. 9.

Sophomore Ashanti Curry (Jacksonville, N.C.) finished fourth in the shot put, tallying a mark of 46ft-4in (14.12m). Curry improved on her indoor mark by 3ft-8.5in. Senior Crystan McLymore (Raleigh, N.C.) placed second in the triple jump, recording a mark of 38-6.25in (11.74m).

On the track, senior Meghan Harvey (Nottingham, Pa.) recorded Navy's lone first place finish. Harvey placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.95. Teammate Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) followed right behind Harvey, crossing the line with a fourth-place time of 2:17.42.

Navy's cross country runners of junior Mary Cate Scully (Fairfax Station, Va.), senior Morgan O'Connor (Sammamish, Was.) and junior Brenna McDannold (Overland Park, Kan.) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. Scully crossed the tape at 10:04.43 with O'Connor and McDannold right behind at 10:06.22 and 10:17.90.

Senior Amanda Mulkey (Fallbrook, Calif.) crossed the finish line in second place in the mile run with a time of 5:10.45. Teammates Katie Jan (Ridgeley, W. Va.) and Maddy Marrone (Belfon, N.J.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 5:17.30 and 5:18.16

Maryland won the team title with 180 points. Navy finished second, edging out Delaware (80.5) by 4.5 points with 85. Coppin State (71) and Johns Hopkins (56) rounded out the top five.

Navy welcomes archrival Army for the annual Indoor Star Meet on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The women's meet will begin following the conclusion of the men's meet, starting at approximately 2:30 p.m.
