Oct. 17, 2016 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team competed in two major events this weekend, one home and one away.
Navy's home regatta was the biggest collegiate dinghy regatta of the year, the Truxtun Umsted Regatta, where 20 teams from around the country sailed in four divisions, with 80 total boats on the water. 80 races were scheduled and light and shifty wind made for very difficult race management. The Midshipmen that helped with race committee did a fantastic job and we really got the most out of what nature offered.
On the racecourse, Navy wound up eighth overall. Patrick Snow and Mary Morocco continued their string of solid A Division results with a fourth place finish. Also finishing fourth in division was Peter Hogan, making a rare Laser Radial appearance in D. Parker Loftus and Molly Hanson came in 10th in B division and Gary Prieto recorded the same result in C.
At the Yale Women's Regatta, light winds only allowed for five races total on Saturday. The wind was better on Sunday however and the 18 teams in attendance were able to get some quality racing. Navy wound up 13th overall, scoring 14th in both divisions, with Hannah Hughes and Sarah Barkley in A and Molly Robertson, Jessica McJones and Carlyn Sawdy-Bowes in B.
