MILFORD, Conn. -- The Navy women's golf team placed second out of five teams at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72 Great Rivers Golf Club. Navy had two players place in the top-five individually.

The Mids shot a two-round score of 649 (327-322; +73) in their first appearance at the Great Rivers Golf Club. Host Sacred Heart won the tournament with a 623 (310-313; +47), 26 strokes ahead of Navy.

Navy trailed Hartford by one stroke after the first round on Sunday, but moved ahead on Monday to take second place. Navy shot a second-round score of 322 on Monday, while Hartford shot a 341 to finish with an overall score of 667 in third place. Siena was in fourth place with a 676 and Fairfield was fifth at 699.

Sacred Heart's Ellen Nighbor was the individual medalist in the 37-player field with a 36-hole score of 146 (71-75; +2) and fellow Pioneer Chelsea Sedlar was second with a 153 (74-79; +9).

Navy junior Christine Walker placed third individually with a two-round score of 155 (77-78; +11) and junior Jane Moon placed fourth with a 158 (79-79; +14).

Walker earned the sixth top-10 finish of her career while Moon's fourth-place finish was the highest of her career.

"I was very excited for Christine and Jane," said Navy head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "They both played extremely well in the windy conditions on Sunday and ended up finishing in the top-five individually. The team fought through their rounds both days to finish in second place."

Freshman Katie Um finished just outside the top-10 with an overall score of 166 (84-82; +22) to place 11th. Junior Legare Augenstein placed 17th with a 170 (87-83; +26) and senior Marci Browning, competing as an individual, was 21st with a 173 (85-88; +29).

Navy has now finished in the top half of the field in all four tournaments this fall.

The Mids will close the fall season at the Lehigh Invitational from Sunday to Monday.
