Navy Intercollegiate Sailing Places Fifth at the War Memorial

Oct. 31, 2016

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team placed fifth out of 18 teams at the War Memorial Trophy at St. Mary's College this weekend.

The top 18 teams in MAISA came together at St. Mary's for the fall conference championship for the War Memorial Trophy. It was a beautiful weekend, with sunny skies and a nice 6-12 knot breeze on Saturday. Navy started off a bit slow, but rounded into form throughout the first day, settling at fifth overall.

The team was ready to make a run on Sunday and came out strong in the first race, but the wind died right after the race completed. The teams waited around the rest of the day, but never got another race in and Navy remained in fifth.

Patrick Snow and Mary Morocco finished sixth in A division while Gary Prieto and Ana Mier were third in B. While the team had hopes for a higher finish, fifth is good enough to qualify Navy for the Atlantic Coast Championship this fall and the Prosser and America Trophies in the spring. This finish should also secure the third place ranking in MAISA for scheduling purposes for 2017.
