BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Navy men's soccer team (2-6-2, 0-3-0 PL) suffered a league overtime loss for the second straight game by falling at Lehigh (4-6-1, 1-2-0 PL), 2-1, on Wednesday evening. Navy lost in overtime to Loyola, 2-1, last Saturday.
Lehigh's Oscar Greene knocked in a loose ball in the 96th minute of overtime following a long serve from the right side and a failed Navy clear.
Navy opened the game's scoring in the 35th minute when junior Thomas Moore scored his first goal of the season. Freshman Diego Manrique served in a free kick from 35 yards out, which freshman Andrew Hopkins flicked across the box to Moore, who finished from four yards out.
Manrique was credited with his team-high second assist of the season, while Hopkins earned his first career point.
Lehigh freshman Zarin Tuten evened the game at 1-1 in the 55th minute off a corner kick. Matt Morana sent in a corner kick from the right side, which Tuten headed into the goal.
The game would remain at 1-1 until Green's 'Golden Goal' in the 96th minute.
Navy senior Sam Bascom had two good scoring chances in the 81st and 93rd minutes, but his shot went just wide each time.
"The guys played really well and we dominated possession," said Navy head coach Tim O'Donohue. "But we are just snake-bitten right now. We had a couple good chances late but we just couldn't put one way."
Navy held a 14-13 advantage in overall shots and had a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Bascom and sophomore Daniel Kwon each took five shots in the game.
Lehigh goalkeeper Will Smith made five saves, while Navy keeper Mac Burke made one.
Navy was playing in its third straight overtime game and its fourth of the 2016 season.
Navy falls to 1-5-0 in road games this season.
Navy will next host Holy Cross on Saturday at 12 noon to begin a four-match homestand. Navy is 1-0-1 at home this year.
