ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team (7-4, 0-1 PL) fell to Richmond (4-1), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.
The Mids dropped the doubles point by a score of 2-1, with the lone win coming from the No. 3 pairing of junior Summer Ralston and freshman Carlee Conway. The No. 3 doubles duo defeated Emily Gitman and Ana Ramirez of Richmond 7-6.
"We let a couple of opportunities slip away early in doubles," said head coach Keith Puryear. "It came back and bit us."
In singles, Navy claimed victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches from sophomore Amanda Keller and sophomore Claudia Mackenzie. Keller was able to win in straight sets over Richmond's Anna Abadias Morales with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Mackenzie defeated Brittany Boys by the score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
"I thought on some courts we did a really good job of grabbing the first set," said Puryear. "The doubles point was really critical today and we were put in a position to try and climb back."
Navy will be travelling to Florida next weekend to take on #35 Florida State Saturday and Florida A&M on Sunday.
