MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. â€" The Navy women's golf team placed eighth out of 10 teams at the Bulldog Invitational at the par-72 Patriots Point Links in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Navy was in sixth place after the first day with a 318, but fell to eighth after shooting a 331 on Tuesday for a total score of 649 (318-331; +73).

"We shot well on Monday, considering it was our first tournament since last fall," said Navy head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "But we are still trying to get more consistent. The team has been putting work into their games and now after playing our first tournament we know what we need to improve on as we move forward with our spring season."

Lamar won the invitational with a two-round score of 594 (295-299; +18) and was followed by Appalachian State (613) and Wofford (620). Navy edged Patriot League-member Bucknell (652) by three strokes and also finished ahead of The Citadel (669), the host of the event.

Lamar claimed the top two individual finishers at the Bulldog Invitational as Wenny Chang was the medalist (69-74=143; -1) and teammate Taylor Stockton placed second (73-72=145; +1) in the field of 57 golfers.

Senior captain Renata Bucher was Navy's top scorer with a 36-hole total of 159 (77-82; +15) as she tied for 22nd place. Sophomore Legare Augenstein, who was competing as an individual, also tied for 22nd place with a 159 (82-77; +15).

Sophomore Kellyanne Hurst placed 29th with a 161 (80-81; +17) and sophomore Christine Walker tied for 33rd with a 164 (77-87; +20).

Sophomore Mary Kate Nelson, competing as an individual, tied for 36th with a 165 (85-80; +21), while sophomore Jane Moon tied for 41st place (84-82=166; +22).

Junior Marci Browning, competing as an individual, tied for 43rd with a 167 (79-88; +23) and junior Katie Ryall rounded out Navy's contingent by placing 52nd with a 172 (86-86; +28).

Navy's top seven scorers finished within just eight strokes of each other.

Four golfers broke 80 in a round at the Bulldog Invitational (Bucher, Augenstein, Walker and Browning), with Browning shooting her first collegiate round in the 70s.

Navy will continue its spring break trip by playing at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina this Saturday-Sunday.
