ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" The Naval Academy's Lejeune Hall will be the site for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship March 7-9 to determine the region's entries for the upcoming NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship meets.

Competition begins Monday, March 7 (noon) with the women's one-meter and men's three-meter events, and continues Tuesday (noon) with the men's one-meter and women's three-meter boards. Platform diving for both the men and the women will be held on Wednesday (11 a.m.).

NCAA schools are divided into five zones for diving based upon geographical location. Zone A consists of schools in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. A total of 112 divers have qualified for the Zone A Championship on at least one board. Women had to post scores of at least 265 points to qualify for the zone meet on the one-meter board, 280 points to take part in the three-meter event and 225 points to compete in platform diving at the meet. Men were required at attain scores of at least 300 points on the one meter, 320 points on the three meter and 300 points in platform diving to advance to the zone meet on the respective boards.

"I am looking forward to hosting this prestigious meet," said Navy diving coach Rich MacDonald. "A lot of work has gone into preparing for the meet, most of which was behind the scenes, and the divers have been preparing for their part all year. It should be fun for them to compete at the highest level in front of all their classmates, friends and family.

"This will be a competitive meet featuring the best divers in the Northeast region. Teams from the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 will be here. The Navy divers should be right in the mix with all of them. We are looking forward to seeing some great diving."

Navy has qualified four divers for the meet. Nate Belch (So., Tucson, Ariz.), Joe Kaszubowski (Fr., Whitefish Bay, Wis.), Frank Love (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) and Julie Jesse (Sr., Edwardsburg, Mich.) have all qualified on both springboard events, with Kaszubowski also entered into the platform diving competition. All four divers are coming off of strong performances during the Patriot League Championship. Belch won the one meter and placed second on the three meter, Kaszubowski won the three meter and finished in second place on the one meter and Love placed third on the one meter and fourth on the three meter. Kaszubowski also was selected as the 2016 Patriot League Men's Diver of the Year. Jesse, who was tabbed as the league's women's diver of the year, won the three meter and placed third on the one meter.

Belch and Jesse competed on both boards at the 2015 zone meet, with Belch also competing in the platform event. Belch placed 35th on the one meter, 45th on the three meter and 13th in the platform event, while Jesse finished in 51st place on the one meter and 31st place on the three meter.

The format for the two springboard events consists of six dives for all entered divers with the top-18 finishers from the preliminary round advancing to the finals where each will again perform six dives. Scores from the preliminary round are carried over into the finals. The platform event features all entered divers taking 12 dives.

Zone A will send four men's divers on the one meter, five on the three meter and four in platform diving to the national championship, while the women will advance five divers from the one-meter event and six from both the three meter and platform competitions to the NCAA meet. Georgia Tech will play host to both NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship meets. The women will compete in the school's McAuley Aquatic Center March 16-19, with the men's meet slated for March 23-26.

There is no admission charge to attend the zone meet. Fans coming to the meet without a Department of Defense identification card must park their vehicle outside of the USNA grounds. Fans are encouraged to park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium ($5. per vehicle) and ride the free shuttle bus to and from the meet. The shuttle bus will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of the session on each of the three days of official competition. Those fans wishing to park downtown must enter the USNA through the gate one visitors entrance.

Whether a visitor rides the shuttle bus to the USNA or walks through one of its gates, everyone over the age of 18 must have and be prepared to display a valid picture ID card (i.e.: State issued driver's license, student ID, or a government issued passport). Visitors under the age of 18 who do not have a valid picture ID card must be escorted by an adult. Visitors from Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico and Washington State must produce their driver's license AND a second ID card before being admitted.
