ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy sophomore Christine Walker sits in first place after the first day of the Navy Spring Tournament on Saturday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. The four-team tournament played 18 holes on Saturday following a nearly three-hour delay due to poor weather. The tournament will conclude on Sunday at 9:30 PM with 18 more holes.

"There were some snow flurries in the morning so we had to delay the start," said Navy head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "We played in twosomes so the pace was pretty fast and that kept the players moving. Based on the poor weather, the first day of the tournament went pretty smoothly.

Walker fired a 5-over par 77 on Saturday to lead the 25-player field and Navy is currently in third place with a team score of 330. Lehigh and Georgetown are tied for first place after both schools shot a 324. Navy is in third place, just six strokes back, and Bucknell rounds out the four-team field with a 332.

"Christine played really well," said Ste-Marie. "She started with a double bogey on the first hole and she really regrouped and finished strong. We had some tough finishes in the last few holes today but we are only six shots back. If we can stay focused tomorrow we will have a shot to win."

Following Walker's tournament-best round of 77 was senior Renata Bucher, who is tied for seventh place with a 10-over par 82.

Sophomore Mary Kate Nelson is in 14th place with an 84 and is followed by sophomore Jane Moon in 15th place with an 85.

Other Navy players in the field include junior Katie Ryall (90, 18th place), sophomore Kellyanne Hurst (93, 20th place), sophomore Legare Augenstein (94; 23rd place) and junior Marci Browning (96, 24th place).

The Navy Spring Tournament will wrap up with the final 18 holes on Sunday at 9:30 AM.
