ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In recognition of his Patriot League All-Tournament Most Valuable Player honor on Monday, junior first baseman Leland Saile (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) was selected as the NAAA Athlete of the Week.

Saile had a stellar second half of the year for Navy and hit a team-high .427 with nine doubles, four home runs and 21 RBIs in 26 games for the Mids beginning on April 5. He capped his breakout run of action with team-highs of a .478 batting average, two home runs and seven RBIs over the six games of the Patriot League postseason tournament. The conference tournament's MVP, Saile plated the winning run in game three on Monday with a sacrifice fly to score Stephen Born in the bottom of the eighth inning. Navy held on in the ninth inning to secure the 1-0 win and the overall 2-1 series victory over Holy Cross.

Saile and the Midshipmen now await the announcement of their next opposition. On Monday at 12 p.m., the NCAA and ESPN will unveil the 2016 NCAA Tournament bracket live on ESPNU. This will be the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the Mids since 2011. This season, Navy has posted a 42-14-1 record that broke the program mark for most wins in a year, as well as set an athletic department record for most victories by any Midshipmen team in the storied history of the Naval Academy's athletic department.
