ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America recognized seven members of the Navy programs as Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans this week for their respective performance this year in the classroom and in the pool.

The CSCAA bestows honorable mention accolades upon those swimmers and divers who attained at least a 3.50 grade-point average during the 2016 spring term while also posting a B cut qualifying time for this year's NCAA Championship. Those swimmers and divers who reached the grade-point threshold and competed at the NCAA Championship were designated as Scholar All-Americans.

Five of the seven honored Mids were members of the Class of 2016. Recent graduates from the women's team who earned the laurel were Ellen Bradford (Knoxville, Tenn.), Rachael Dudley (Hoschton, Ga.) and Maddi Thompson (Jersey Shore, Pa.). Bradford earned a 4.00 GPA as an honors systems engineering major and recorded her B cut times in both breaststroke events. Dudley recorded a 3.56 GPA as an English major and posted provisional qualifying times in both butterfly events and in the 500 free. Thompson, an oceanography major, posted a 3.53 GPA in the classroom while meeting the B cut standard in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free.

The members of the Navy men's team who graduated a few weeks ago and received the academic nod were David Carlson (Brielle, N.J.) and Frank Love (Atlanta, Ga). Carlson, who will compete at next week's U.S. Olympic Trials along with Bradford, attained a 4.00 GPA this spring as a quantitative economics major and posted qualifying times in both backstroke events, while Love concluded his USNA academic career with a 3.88 GPA as an honors systems engineering major and competed in both springboard events at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship.

Completing the list of Navy's honorees were returners Kaitlyn O'Reilly (Farmington, Minn.) and Ryan Bailey (Boardman, Ohio), both of whom are operations research majors. O'Reilly, a rising junior, completed the semester with a 3.56 GPA and earned B cut times in the 400 individual medley and 200 back events, while rising senior Bailey posted a 4.00 GPA and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in both butterfly events.
