Sept. 8, 2016 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Coming off an impressive 5-3 victory over in-state rival Maryland Wednesday night, the Navy women's soccer team (2-4-1) will have a quick turnaround as it hosts the Navy Invitational this weekend at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
The Mids welcome Bowling Green, Drake and Towson to Annapolis. On Friday, Bowling Green and Towson will kick off the invitational at 4 p.m. with Navy and Drake concluding at 7 p.m. Sunday will feature Drake and Towson at 12 p.m. with Navy and Bowling Green wrapping up the weekend at 2:30 p.m.
Both Navy matches will be streamed live and for free on PatriotLeague.TV with Joe Miller on the call. Live statistics will be available for all four matches on navysports.com.
Last Time Out
• In an offensive outburst, which was led by junior forward Clare MacAdam's two goals, the Navy women's soccer team defeated Maryland, 5-3, Wednesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. It was the first time in 11 tries that the Mids were able to take down in-state rival Maryland.
• MacAdam, who had scored in the previous four matches this season, continued her hot streak against the Terrapins, tallying her 23rd and 24th career goals. Her 24 career goals tied her for ninth all-time in program history with Carissa Youker (Class of '11).
• Along with MacAdam, senior Rachel Feldman and freshmen Alex Jackson and Cadie Higginson all tallied a goal.
• Navy held advantages over Maryland in shots, 17-15, shots on goal, 11-10 and corner kicks, 5-3.
• Dayton Wetherby held strong in net for Navy, recording seven saves on 10 chances to improve to 2-4-1.
• The Mids tallied their second positive result in the all-time series against the Terrapins in Annapolis, having earned a 1-1 tie on September 8, 2014 at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Climbing The Record Book
• Junior forward Clare MacAdam has had two great years in a Navy uniform and has not wasted any time in 2016 to build upon those two seasons to continue her momentum. In two seasons, MacAdam tallied 42 points on 18 goals and six assists, which included five game-winning goals, in 43 games played.
• In seven matches, MacAdam has recorded six goals to bring her career total 54 points on 24 goals and six assists.
• Her 54 points puts her 16th all-time in program history. MacAdam also sits tied-for ninth all-time at Navy in goals with 24.
Striking Early and Often
• Junior forward Clare MacAdam and freshman Cadie Higginson have found success on offense in the early part of 2016, combining for 10 goals through the first seven matches.
• MacAdam has recorded at least one goal in the last five matches to lead the Navy offense with six.
• The Palmyra, New Jersey, native's four goals has risen her career point total to 54 on 24 goals and six assists. MacAdam's 50 points place her for 16th all-time in program history.
• MacAdam's 24 goals tie her with Carissa Youker ('11) for ninth all-time in program history.
• MacAdam helped Navy get on the board early in the last three matches, tallying goals in the 10th, 20th and 33rd minute.
• In just seven matches, Higginson has tallied nine points on four goals and one assist.
• Higginson wasted little time getting acclimated to the collegiate game, scoring in the season opener against #5/1 Stanford.
• The freshman midfielder's trend so far this year is that she has scored in every other game.
• A Navy mark that has been tough to reach but attainable is the Mids' freshman record for goals in a season. Cori Thornton recorded 18 goals as a freshman back in 1994 and has since been challenged.
Freshman Firsts
• Midfielder Cadie Higginson made her presence known on the pitch in the 2016 opener against then-#5/1 Stanford, as she not only tallied Navy's first goal of the season but her first career goal in the 78th minute of the match.
• Higginson was recognized for tallying her first goal with her first career league accolade as she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
• It was the second consecutive season opener in which a Navy freshman tallied their first collegiate goal. Last season, Mary August and Margaret Woodward scored back-to-back goals within 1:40 of one another to defeat UMBC, 3-2.
• Defender Alex Jackson recorded her first collegiate goal in the 12th minute against in-state rival Maryland.
Scouting Drake
• The Bulldogs are unbeaten through their first five matches, owning a 4-0-1 overall mark.
• Drake began 2016 with three consecutive road matches, going 2-0-1 and outscoring its opponent 5-0. During that stretch, the Bulldogs earned an impressive 0-0 double overtime draw at Wisconsin.
• Drake's defense has allowed one goal in 470 minutes of play.
• The Bulldogs have recorded three players with at least two goals.
• Alyssa Brand is Drake's offensive catalyst, leading the squad with seven points on three goals and one assist. Brand has recorded the game-winning goal in Drake's 1-0 win over South Dakota and 2-1 victory over Milwaukee.
• Haley Morris has started the last four matches for the Bulldogs, owning a 0.27 goals-against average with a .933 save percentage (14 saves).
Scouting Bowling Green
• The Falcons being the 2016 with a 3-2 overall mark.
• Bowling Green will be traveling away from Cochrane Field for the first time this season, opening the first five matches of 2016 at home.
• The Falcons have been tested early with all five matches being a one-goal differential. Bowling Green earned 1-0 victories over Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso and Detriot, while falling 2-1 to Morehead State and Oakland.
• Erica Hubert leads the Bowling Green offense with four points on two goals. Hubert tallied the game winners against Eastern Illinois and Valaparaiso.
• Lauren Cadel has started all five matches for the Falcons, owning a 0.80 goals-against average with a .778 save percentage and three shutouts.
Parking / Shuttle Information
Fans are reminded that the general public does not have access to drive their vehicles on to the U.S. Naval Academy. Fans may park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for $5 and take a shuttle that will run every 10 minutes starting at 3:00 PM, one hour prior to the game and will continue running until 10:30 PM on Friday. On Sunday, the shuttle will begin at 11:00 AM and continue running until 6:00 PM.
