DANBURY, Conn. - Freshman Tanner West (Cypress, Texas) was recognized on Tuesday by the ECAC as the conference's Corvias Men's Gymnast of the Week for his performance at the Navy Open on Saturday
In his second collegiate meet and first as an all-around competition, West finished atop the standings in the all-around event at the Navy Open with a score of 79.9. Strong throughout the meet, West finished top-ten in five of the six apparatuses as he was the best ring performer with a 13.75 score, second on the high bar (13.25), fourth on the parallel bars (13.6), sixth on the vault (13.8) and ninth on the pommel horse (12.7). He helped Navy defend its title at the Navy Open as the team scored 397.65 points to defeat William & Mary, Springfield and Temple.
This is his first career ECAC laurel and first of the young season for the Navy gymnastics program.
West and his Midshipmen teammates will be back in action on Saturday with a home dual meet versus ECAC foe William & Mary. The competition in Macdonough Hall will begin at 2:00 pm.
