Oct. 9, 2017 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the second time in three weeks, Baseley McClaskey (Grand Junction, Colo.) was selected as the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore defender was recognized on Monday by the league office for assisting on the Mids' game-winning goal on Saturday night versus Boston University.
Navy's starting left back, McClaskey continues to hold the Patriot League lead, as well as rank fifth in the NCAA DI with eight assists over 15 games so far this season for the Mids. On Saturday, in a matchup of two of the Patriot League's top three teams, McClaskey was tasked with serving a corner kick into the box in the 85th minute of a scoreless contest. McClaskey connected with Ash Fairow for a header to succeed in that assignment and put the Mids up 1-0 with 5:41 left in regulation. Defensively, she was part of a backfield that shut down a Boston U. offense that came in averaging 1.31 goals per game. The shutout was Navy's fifth in a row and 10th of 2017.
As a program, this is Navy's sixth Patriot League weekly award of the season. Early this campaign, Fairow earned Offensive Player of the Week nods on August 28 and Oct. 2, while Liza Harris was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18. Navy goalkeeper Sydney Fortson garnered the league's Goalie of the Week honor last week, Oct. 2. McClaskey's first Defensive Player of the Week accolade came on Sept. 25.
The Mids will look to continue their run of undefeated Patriot League play with a Friday night road tilt versus their archrivals Army in West Point, N.Y. Kickoff between the Mids and Black Knights is set for 7:00 p.m.
