No. 12 Navy Readies to Host No. 6 Penn State

Feb. 24, 2017

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - One year after facing off with Penn State at the 2016 NCAA Championships, the Navy gymnastics team will welcome one of the most prominent programs in the nation to Macdonough Hall on Saturday afternoon. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., the No. 12 Mids (6-6) and Nittany Lions (8-2) will compete in a non-conference dual meet event. The matchup will be the first dual competition between the two schools in Annapolis since March 9, 2002. The programs have met intermittently since then in multi-team open or invitational events.

Navy and Penn State both competed at the West Point Open during the weekend of Jan. 13-14, 2017. The Nittany Lions came in first at the event with 412.35 points, while the Mids were fifth at 391.25. At the West Point Open, Jonny Tang finished fifth in the all-around and earned two bids into individual event finals. Penn State's Michael Burns was the all-around champion with 82.7 points.
