Mids Compete at the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy

April 3, 2017

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team placed 17th out of 18 teams at the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy at Brown University in its only event of the weekend.

This event always draws top competition and this year was especially tough, with all but two of the 18 teams in attendance nationally ranked in the top 20. The weather didn't make things any easier. On Saturday, it poured down rain and blew 15-25 knots out of the northeast with occasionally higher puffs and temperatures in the low to mid 30s. As the day progressed, it got windier, the rain turned to snow and racing ended a bit early.

Sunday was a much nicer day, with sunny skies, highs in the 50s and northwest winds at 5-15 knots.

The conditions became extremely variable later in the day and some wind shifts mixed the fleet around greatly.

Navy struggled to put complete races together and had a tough event, finishing 17th overall. Hannah Hughes, Brittney Slook, and Sarah Barkley finished 17th in A division while Jessica McJones and Molly Hanson were 14th in B.

Navy's women will look to bounce back in a few weeks at home for its conference women's championship.
