ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Junior attacker
Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) was named Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week, as well as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week as announced on Monday afternoon.
Collins led the Navy women's lacrosse team to a pair of victories in the NCAA Tournament over the weekend helping the Mids to advance to their first ever Elite Eight.
She scored 10 points on the weekend, tying the Navy school record with eight goals in a game in a 23-11 second-round victory over UMass. In the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, Collins scored two goals, including the game-winning goal to give Navy an 11-10 win over No. 7 Penn -- Navy's first victory over a ranked opponent in program history.
In addition to scoring 10 goals, Collins finished the weekend with a team-best 13 draw controls. She won a team-high five draws against Penn, while adding a team-best eight draw controls against UMass.
Navy (17-4) will face No. 2 seed North Carolina (17-2) at Fetzer Field in Chapel, Hill, N.C. on Saturday, May 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
