Intercollegiate Sailing Concludes Women's Nationals

May 28, 2017

Championship Central

CHARLESTON, S.C. - After advancing to the final round of the 2017 Sperry College Sailing Women's National Championship, Navy's upperclass sailors returned to Annapolis for Commissioning, leaving four first-year sailors to battle the toughest college sailing women's fleet of the year.

The conditions didn't make things any easier, as the wind gusted over 20 knots throughout the first day and shifted wildly throughout the second day. Both days of racing featured extreme currents as high as three knots during max ebb. Despite the challenges, the Midshipmen should be proud of the showing they put forth over the two days of racing. They handled the conditions and were in every race, showing moments of brilliance and promise for the future.

At the same time, they were prone to some freshman mistakes and wound up finishing 18th out of the 18 teams in the finals.

Jessica McJones and Karma Richards finished 17th in A Division while Brittney Slook and Emma Remis were 18th in B.

Navy will next compete at the Laser Performance Team Racing Nationals from Saturday to Monday.
