Navy's Swimmers & Divers Earn League Academic Honor

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. â€"â€" The Patriot League-champion Navy swimming and diving teams combined to place 39 of its squad members onto the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll that was announced Monday by the league office.

Swimmers and divers from the 10 league schools needed to attain at least a 3.20 grade-point average for the 2017 spring semester to earn the laurel. Over 300 swimmers and divers were named to the honor roll, including 25 who posted a 4.00 GPA for the grading period.

Headlining the men's recipients was 2017 Patriot League Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year Ryan Bailey (Youngstown, Ohio). The 2017 Navy graduate and two-time Academic All-American posted a 4.00 GPA â€"â€" his seventh 4.00 for a semester â€"â€" this spring. Also posting a 4.00 GPA from the men's team were fellow graduate Michael Bundas (Saline, Mich.) and rising junior Zach Piedt (Fort Mill, S.C.). Bundas completed his degree in physics and Piedt is majoring in computer science.

Two members of the Navy women's team, Ellie Deglau (Henrico, Va.) and Molly Kunestler (Villa Park, Ill.), attained a 4.00 GPA this spring. Deglau, a rising junior, is majoring in chemistry and Kuenstler, a member of the Class of 2018, is working toward a degree in English.

Additional 2017 Navy graduates who were named to the honor roll were Marlin Brutkiewicz (Mobile, Ala.), 3.50, ocean engineering; Sam Ciocco (Walkersville, Md.), 3.69, mechanical engineering; Eric Collins (North Augusta, S.C.), 3.50, computer science; Nick Falconi (Mullica Hill, N.J.), 3.38, mechanical engineering; Dennis Rusiewski (Rochester, Mich.), 3.20, general science; Madeline Bliss (The Woodlands, Texas), 3.50 ocean engineering; Hanna Gillcrist (Burlington, Ky.), 3.60, oceanography; and Charlotte Meyer (Bethesda, Md.), 3.82, operations research.
