ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 13th-ranked Navy squash team (10-4) dropped its third straight match to a team ranked among the nation's top 10 when on Saturday the ninth-ranked Drexel Dragons (3-6) cruised past the Mids, 9-1, in Annapolis. Navy lost a pair of 7-2 decisions prior to the semester break to #5 Penn and #10 Dartmouth.
Navy's lone win on the afternoon came by way of a 3-0 sweep by senior Sam McCartney (Chicago, Ill.) over Drexel senior Noel Solomon, 11-9, 11-5, 11-9, at the No. 7 position.
The Mids dropped a pair of five-game matches to the Dragons, including the No. 1 spot. Navy team captain Jack Herold (Sr. / Chicago, Ill.)and Drexel sophomore Lucas Rousselet traded wins in a spirited match that saw Rousselet clip Herold in the fifth, 11-9. Meanwhile, Navy sophomore Owen Davis (Rydal, Pa.) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage at the No. 4 spot against Dylan Kachur, but the Drexel rooke came roaring back to win three in a row (11-9, 11-8, 11-8) and take the victory.
Five other matches were decided in four games, while Navy was swept in just one.
The Midshipmen return to action on Wednesday when they play host to 11th-ranked George Washington at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts. Action is slated for 5:30 pm.
