MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Spending the second straight week on the road, the 14th-ranked Navy squash team (14-7) dropped a 7-2 decision to #9 Yale on Saturday before closing out the weekend with a 9-0 sweep over #31 Wesleyan on Sunday.
Rookie Jack Lentz (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Dylan Sweeney (New York, N.Y.) produced 2-0 marks on the weekend to pace the Mids. Lentz, who was hit in the face and received a handful of stitches to his mouth following his Yale match, won a five-gamer against the Bulldogs' Max Martin at the #3 position. Martin won games one and three, but Lentz was able to pull even with a pivotal 13-11 win in the second and an 11-9 mark in the fourth. He captured the win over the Yale senior behind an 11-7 victory in the fifth. Meanwhile, Lentz never gave up more than three points in any game en route to a 3-0 sweep against Wesleyan sophomore William Bienstock. With a successful weekend behind him, he now stands tied with junior Senen Ubina (Greenwich, Conn.) for the most wins on the team with 17 (17-4).
Sweeney put together his most complete and dominant performance of the year in a 3-0 victory against Yale senior Thomas Kingshott at the #6 slot. Sweeney, who now stands 14-7 on the year, followed up with a 3-0 sweep against Wesleyan sophomore Alex Dreyfus. With his pair of wins, Sweeney joined Navy's all-time top-25 wins list where he stands tied with Billy Abrams (2009-12) for 24th with a 54-21 record.
