ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing had a strong showing at the first Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Showcase competition, where the Midshipmen advanced to the ICSA Women's Showcase Final in two weeks.
The ICSA Showcases are new this season where the top teams in the country are seeded in two first-round events and the top nine from each event advance to the showcase final on October 13 and 14 at Brown. The showcase regattas are going to be held in the coed and women's disciplines this season. Navy's Jen Harris Regatta was selected as one of the first-round events this year.
In what was a good weekend weather-wise in Annapolis, the wind was lacking for the competition, which resulted in numerous delays throughout the weekend. The regatta completed with 10 races per division being finished.
In the 17-team field, the Midshipmen placed sixth overall to advance to the showcase final at Brown in Rhodes Island in two weeks.
The duo of
Jessica McJones (Jr., Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and
Kelly Milliken (So., Mooresville, N.C.) finished eighth overall in the A division, while
Olivia de Olazarra (Fr., Miami, Fla.) and
Emma Remis (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) were fourth in the B division.
Next up, Navy hits the road for the Tom Curtis Regatta in Washington, D.C. and the ICSA Coed Showcase in Boston, Mass., from October 6-7.
