ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy sprint football team (3-1, 2-0 CSFL South) close out the home portion of the 2018 schedule against Collegiate Sprint Football League South Division rival Chestnut Hill (2-2, 2-0) on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Prior to the game, the Midshipmen will recognize their senior class as part of Senior Day. Live stats will be available.
Senior Day
The game will be the final home game for the Mids' 14 senior players –

Josh Womack (Bastrop, La.). In addition, it will be the final home game for Navy's senior student athletic trainers – Chad Castillo, Maria "Manny" Bayon Farrell, and Victoria Oakes – and senior student equipment managers – Nick Falleni and Andrew Borgdorff.
Captains
This season, Navy has been led by a pair of senior captains –
Dane Livengood (Treynor, Iowa) and
Sheppard Wilson (Charlotte, N.C.). Livengood, a 2016 Honorable Mention All-CSFL selection, serves as the offensive captain, while Wilson, who is also the captain of the captains for the Midshipmen, is the defensive representative. Wilson earned First Team All-CSFL honors last season.
The Series
Navy holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with Chestnut Hill. The Midshipmen opened the series at home against the Griffins with a 43-0 victory in 2016. The following year, Navy posted a 10-point win over Chestnut Hill on the road, claiming a 27-17 victory to open the 2017 season.
Swenson Earns Third CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week Accolade This Season

Jared Swenson (Seymour, Wis.) earned his third CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week accolade this season for his performance in the Midshipmen's 45-14 victory over Caldwell, as announced by the league office. Swenson finished the game against Caldwell with nine points, connecting on six extra point opportunities and converting a field goal opportunity. The junior was true from 41 yards out on only field goal attempt, while finishing the game a perfect 6-for-6 on extra point opportunities in the game. On the season, Swenson has converted four field goal opportunities and is a perfect 21-for-21 on PATs.
Last Time Out – at Caldwell (W, 45-14)
Navy used a 24-point second quarter to take a commanding lead and cruised to a 45-14 victory on the road against Caldwell on Saturday afternoon at Bonnell Field in West Caldwell, N.J. The Midshipmen used an interception return for a touchdown, a pair of TD passes, and a field goal to take control of the game in the second quarter.
Offensively the Midshipmen tallied 420 yards of total offense, rushing for 229 and passing for 191. Quarterback
Braydan Chmiel (Warrenton, Mo.) finished the game 13-for-20 for 186 yards and four touchdowns, while
Caleb Champion (Milton, Fla.) led the ground attack with 136 yards on 17 carries. Chmiel chipped in 38 yards and a TD on the ground, while
Kaleb Bodily (Logandale, Nev.) and Brennan Means (Highland, Calif.) finished with 42 and 16 yards rushing, respectively.
Stefano Saragusa (Haines City, Fla.),
Jay Cooke (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.),
J.T. Thompson (Stratham, N.H.), and
Jared Wiltshire (Elizabethton, Tenn.) each caught touchdown passes on the day.
Eric Spicer (St. Marys, Ohio) led the way with 43 yards receiving, followed by Saragusa (39), Wiltshire (36), Cooke (30) and Thompson (28).
Defensively, the Mids limited the Cougars to 269 total yards, including just 17 yards on the ground. As a team, Navy recorded 12.0 tackles for loss, including 10.0 sacks.
Troy Monroe (Columbus, Ga.) led the way with 4.5 sacks, while
Gavin O'Donnell (Greenfield Township, Pa.) and
Nick Scalise (Fayetteville, Ark.) finished with two apiece.
Shawn Kluchinsky (Abingdon, Md.) recorded an interception, returning the ball 11 yards for a score.
Mason Hooten (Orlando, Fla.) added a fumble recovery on the defensive side.
Jared Swenson (Seymour, Wis.) was one again perfect on special teams. The place kicker was 6-for-6 on point after touchdowns and converted his lone field goal attempt, hitting from 41 yards.
Navy was the first team to scratch the scoreboard, breaking the scoreless tie with just under 11 minutes on the first quarter game clock. Saragusa hauled in a 24-yard pass from Chmiel to cap a three-play scoring drive that covered 43 yards.
In the second quarter, the Midshipmen erupted for 24 points. Kluchinsky started the scoring 10 seconds into the quarter by picking off a Caldwell pass and returning it 11 yards for the pick six. After a Cougar touchdown, Chmiel connected with Wiltshire for a 36-yard touchdown with 6:44 to play. Swenson drilled a 41-yard field goal three and a half minutes later. Thompson caught an eight-yard TD reception for the final score of the quarter to put Navy in front 31-7.
Chmiel was responsible for a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. The sophomore QB found Cooke in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown and called his own number, running the ball in from six yards out. Caldwell used a 59-yard TD pass for its second touchdown of the game, providing the final score of 45-14.
Last Time vs. Chestnut Hill (W, 27-17 – Sept. 15, 2017)
Navy posted a 27-17 victory on the road against Chestnut Hill at Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken, Pa. The two teams were tied 10-10 late in the second quarter before the Midshipmen rattled off 17 consecutive points to take control of the game.
The Mids had a balanced running game with four players –
Brandon Coleman (Yonkers, N.Y.),
Stefano Saragusa (Haines City, Fla.),
Luis Castillo (Mason, Texas), and
Caleb Champion (Milton, Fla.) – each recording over 30 yards on the ground on the night. The foursome combined for 223 yards and a touchdown. Coleman led the way with 74 yards and a TD, while Saragusa added 57 yards. Castillo and Champion notched 39 and 33 yards on the ground, respectively.
Brian McLaughlin (Melrose, Mass.) tallied 18 yards on seven carries, but led the team with two touchdowns.
In the air, Coleman finished the game 5-for-8 for 76 yards with a long of 46. He hit three different receivers –
Matt Vogel (Upper Saddle River, N.J.),
J.T. Thompson (Stratham, N.H.), and
Sam Shaunak (Collierville, Tenn.) – on the night. Shaunak hauled down the big 45-yard reception late in the first half, while Vogel (18 yards) and Thompson (13 yards) each had a pair of receptions each.
Placekicker
Jared Swenson (Seymour, Wis.) finished the night with nine points in the game. He notched a pair of field goals, while adding three point after attempts.
In the first quarter, the Griffins used a 12-play drive that covered 62 yards to take an early 3-0 lead with 7:07 remaining in the first quarter. The drive was capped with a 26-yard field goal by kicker Dante Fuchs. The Midshipmen were able to tie the score at 3-3 with an 8-play drive that covered 33 yards. Swenson capped the drive with a 41-yard field goal to knot the score with 3:35 to play in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Navy took its first lead of the 2017 season as McLaughlin plunged one yard into the end zone to cap a 66-yard drive by the Mids. Up 10-3, the Midshipmen forced a punt and took control of the ball. The first play from scrimmage saw Coleman get sacked and fumble the ball. Chestnut Hill's Kevin Meredith emerged with the loose ball and ran 44 yards to the end zone with the game-tying score. Just before halftime, Navy forced a Chestnut Hill punt with 13 ticks on the clock. Coleman hit Shaunak down the field for 45 yards to set up a Swenson field goal as time expired in the opening half to put the Midshipmen atop, 13-10.
In the second half, the Mids took the opening kickoff and marched down the field 51 yards on six plays. The drive was capped by a 24-yard jaunt by Coleman to put the visitors on top 20-10. Navy ended the third quarter with a long sustained drive to close out the period. When play resumed in the fourth quarter, McLaughlin plunged three-yards into the end zone for his second score of the game, putting the Mids in front 27-10.
Chestnut Hill trimmed the Navy lead to 10 points with a touchdown with just under nine minutes to play. The Girffins' quarterback Reggie Robinson Jr. hurled a 36-yard strike to Michael Marino in the end zone for the score. The home team had two final chances to try to close the gap, but the Midshipmen defense thwarted both attempts. After obtaining the ball by recovering a fumble at midfield, Chestnut Hill drove nearly 20 yards on three plays before
Tommy Guinan (Elmhurst, Ill.) intercepted a Robinson pass to stop the scoring opportunity. Chestnut Hill got the ball back with 85 seconds remaining on the game clock. The Griffins picked up a first down at the five yardline, but were stopped at the two by
Luke Coughlin (Islip, N.Y.) as time expired, preserving the 10-point victory.
