Army-Navy Swim-Dive Meet Slated for Saturday in West Point

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The annual Army-Navy swimming and diving Star Meet, part of the Star Series presented by USAA, will be held Saturday at noon in West Point, N.Y.  Both Navy teams enter the day with an 8-1 record in dual meets this year and each Army squad has posted a 2-1 record.

A free live stream video of the meet can be found HERE.

Access pre-meet interviews with Brayden Lauffer (Sr., Apex, N.C.) and Casey Lawson (Sr., Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) as part of the Navy Sports Magazine Show HERE and HERE.

The Navy women's team has defeated Army in each of the last 29 seasons.  The Mids posted a 223-77 victory a year ago as well as a 194-106 win the last time Army played host to the meet in 2016.

Navy swimmers have posted a faster time than Army this season in each of the 12 individual events and in the two relay events to be contested during the meet, and Mids have posted higher scores than Black Knights in both diving events.

"It's that time of year again when we prep for our biggest dual meet of the year," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison.  "We are proud of our efforts in practice and meets through the season thus far, and the Army-Navy meet will once again be the culmination of our fall semester competition.  This meet and the Army-Navy tradition really brings out the best in both teams.  We will have our hands full.  Army has two returning Patriot League individual event champions who have been competing well.  Once again, our leadership and upper class will have to stand tall and show the way for our plebes.  This is always an extremely exciting day for Navy swimming & diving."

The Navy men's team has recorded a victory over Army in each of the last 27 years.  Last year's meet in Annapolis saw the Mids post a 209.5-90.5 victory, but two years ago in West Point the meet came down to the final event before Navy emerged with a 156.5-143.5 win.

Based upon times posted thus far this season, this year's men's meet should resemble the 2016 meet more than the 2017 meeting.  Though Navy has posted a faster time in both relay events and has scored higher than its counterparts in both diving events, the 12 individual events have been evenly split with both teams able to say they have the faster swimmer in six events.  And in many cases, the gap between the top swimmers from the respective teams in each of the events is a just whisker of time.

"Navy swimmers and divers have been committed and working very hard for a long period of time as we are looking forward to competing with Army this Saturday," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  "Expecting Army would say the same thing, we are approaching this event taking nothing for granted including any past performances.  We fully expect a very close and highly competitive meet with Army this weekend."
