GENEVA, Ohio -- Navy track and field sent several student-athletes to the SPIRE Division I Classic in Geneva, Ohio for the final tune up prior to the 2018 Patriot League Indoor Championship.

"The SPIRE Division I Invitational was a great meet as a final tune up going into the Patriot League Championships for a number of our frontline competitors," associate head coach Chris Campbell said. "We had some personal records/seasonal bests and competed against some very good Big Ten and ACC teams. Additionally, some of our developmental athletes were able to compete one more time during the indoor season."

In the running events, Austin Pierce (Dahlonega, Ga.) notched the best time for the Mids in the 60m and 200m dashes. He posed his second fastest time of the year in the 60m dash with a time of 7.10m, while clocking his second-best time in the 200m dash with a time of 22.23.

Jonathan Gill (Miami Shores, Fla.) ran in the 300m dash posting a season-best time of 36.42. Omar Bailey (North Plainfield, N.J.) was the top finisher for Navy in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 50.64, while Christian Moreno (Oronogo, Mo) clocked the fastest time of the season in the 600m run (1:23.40), just ahead of Simon Petsch (1:23.44 - Billings, Mont.).

Justin Hyytinen (Farmington, Minn.) notched his third fastest time in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.03. Kevin Murray (Wilmington, Del.) posted the first sub-15 time in the 5,000m, nothing a time of 14:44.66.

In the throw, Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) hurled his third best distance of the year with a 16.84m (55-03.00) in the shot put. Mike Milcarek (Woodinville, Wash.) and Brennan each notched throws over 17m in the weight throw, recording distances of 17.89m (58-08.50) and 17.21m (56-05.75), respectively.

On the women's side, Ashanti Curry (Jacksonville, N.C.) tied her season best throw in the shot put, registering a distance of 14.09m (46-02.75) to finish seventh overall. In the weight throw, the Mids recorded three of the top five marks of the season, including the best two throws of the year. Plebe Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) notched the best throw by a Midshipmen this season with a distance of 16.55m (54-03.75), followed closely by Izzy Marini (Elkgrove, Calif.) who notched a throw of 16.21m (53-02.25). Ariana McKenzie (Potomac, Md.) registered a throw of 15.48m (50-09.50), which is the fifth best throw of the year by a Navy thrower.
