ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team returned from spring break training in Charleston, S.C. to compete in two team racing regattas this weekend. Navy placed seventh at the Graham Hall Team Race and second at the Washington College Team Race.
Navy's home event was the biggest regular season team race regatta in college sailing, the 16-team Graham Hall Team Race. Shifty winds and stronger than usual currents in the Seven River caused very challenging conditions for the race management and the competitors. On the race course, the Midshipmen were a bit up and down, finishing with a 9-6 record, good enough for seventh overall. Navy's skippers were Gary Prieto, Peter Hogan, Parker Loftus and Max Brill. They sailed with crews Sarah Barkley, Ana Mier, Kelly Milliken and Emma Remis.
Conditions were similar at the Washington College Team Race and the racing was very tight in the variable conditions. Navy started strong and kept it going throughout the first day. t quickly became clear that the Midshipmen would be battling with Cornell for the victory. After a tight battle, Navy would up one race short of the overall victory at 11-4, good for second out of six. Navy's skippers were Hamrick Morgan, Tyler Fleig, Nicholas Gartner and Sean Linden sailing with crews Madeline Pruzan, Holly Koerwer, Bartholomew Winn, Abigail Richardson and Alyson Wade.
