Men’s Soccer Shifts Match Against Air Force to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

Navy Men's Soccer set to play Air Force at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Friday, Aug. 31

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's soccer team announced the change of location for its home contest against Air Force on Friday, August 31 to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The rivalry between Navy and Air Force will be renewed this season on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. The match, which was originally slated to be played at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, has been shifted to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Navy and Air Force last met in 2014, where the two programs played to a 1-1 draw in Colorado Springs, Colo. This will be just the fourth meeting between two programs since 2000. The last time the Midshipmen hosted the Falcons was on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, where Navy earned a 1-0 victory.

In the all-time series between Navy and Air Force, the Falcons lead, 4-3-3. However, in games played in Annapolis, the Mids are 3-1-1 against Air Force.

Last season, Air Force posted an overall record of 14-3-3 and went 8-0-2 in the WAC. The Falcons earned a spot in NCAA Tournament, but suffered a 2-0 loss in the first round to Virginia Tech.

"Air Force is coming off a great year. We are excited to host them in a great venue. It will be a fantastic match with an excellent atmosphere," said head coach Tim O'Donohue.

Navy went 2-13-2 in 2017 and were 0-7-2 in the Patriot League, but third-year head coach Tim O'Donohue brings in a top-30 national recruiting class according to TopDrawer Soccer. O'Donohue has a young squad for 2018 with 11 freshmen and just one senior in team captain Michael Hurley.

The Midshipmen start their 2018 campaign on Friday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m., against Manhattan at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
