Women's Soccer to Start Patriot League Play on Thursday

Mids to host Holy Cross in 1 p.m. tilt

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After playing eight non-conference games over the opening four weeks of the season, the Navy women's soccer team will turn its attention to Patriot League action on Thursday with the first of nine league contests in 2018. Thursday's matinee tilt at 1 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility will see the Mids (2-3-3) host the Crusaders of Holy Cross (2-5) in the league opener for both teams. This matchup was moved up to Thursday from Saturday morning in an effort to alleviate any potential hazards association with the incoming weather system. Live stats will be provided on NavySports.com to follow along with the action.

Last Time Out
The Mids are coming off of action at the 2018 Navy Classic this past weekend. Hosting then-No. 20 USF on Friday night and a 4-1 Penn team on Sunday, the Mids dropped a pair of hard fought, physical contests. The Bulls took game one of the classic tournament by a score of 2-1 before the Quakers won a water-logged battle on Sunday, 4-2. Baseley McClaskey championed the Mids' offense during the action with both of the team's goals on Sunday and an assist on Friday. Alex Jackson netted the score for Navy versus USF.

Always up for a challenge, Navy's three losses in non-conference play this season have come versus teams with a combined 14-3-1 record: No. 17 N.C. State (6-1-1), No. 19 USF (4-1) and Penn (4-1).

Navy is 11-0-1 all-time versus Holy Cross in games played in Annapolis.

2017 Recap
In the opening game of the 2017 Patriot League conference season on Sept. 15, the Navy women's soccer team had a 90-minute battle on its hands that required two second half goals to help the visiting Mids overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and earn a 2-1 road win at Holy Cross. Two well struck corner kicks into the box by Baseley McClaskey within the first 15 minutes of the second half found the heads of Meghan Hegarty and Liza Harris to swing the one-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage for the Mids over the Crusaders at the Smith Soccer Stadium.
