Navy captures two flights at Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational

Moore wins singles "C" flight and the duo of Deng and Corpuz win doubles "B" flight

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team wrapped up the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational with three Mids earning flight victories this weekend at the Brigade Sports Complex.

Kacey Moore (Fr., Wellington, Fla.) was the lone singles competitor to win a flight after winning the "C" flight. In the doubles "B" flight, Miranda Deng (So., North Potomac, Md.) and Katreina Corpuz (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) won the draw for Navy.

"It was a good weekend and it was by far the most competitive field we have had at the Moore Invitational in the 10 years we have hosted the event," head coach Keith Puryear said after the tournament. "Each team that competed here has improved from last year and it presented tough challenges for us right from the start. I am pleased with our progress from our first tournament last weekend to this weekend. I saw a ton of improvement between tournaments.

"Congratulations to our flight winners Kacey Moore, Miranda Deng and Katreina Corpuz. I think it was a pretty good accomplishment to have three teams in the doubles finals with Navy against Navy in the "B" flight and we had a pair of Navy versus Navy semifinals. We had good performances all around. There were a couple tight losses, but I thought we performed well. Always at this point in the season, there are things we can work on to get better. We have a couple weeks off before our next invitational and we look to work on some of those things in the coming weeks to continue our improvement."

Navy had a strong showing in the doubles "B" flight with an all-Navy championship match. The pairs of Deng and Corpuz and Annalise Klopfer (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) and Moore went unbeaten and into the finals. In the championship match, Deng and Corpuz came out on top, 6-3.

Prior to the finals, Deng and Corpuz beat Binghamton's Ashley Granieri and Maria Pandya, 6-1, followed by a 6-2 victory over Liza Rachenko and Smriti Singh of Fairleigh Dickinson. In the semifinals, Deng and Corpuz outlasted Seton Hall's Melody Taal and Michal Matson, 7-5.

At the top of the draw for Klopfer and Moore, they beat Lehigh's Leigh Friedman and Elizabeth Nowak, 6-4, and then took down Kendall Addison and Dominique Jackson of Howard, 6-2. The Mids set up the all-Navy affair in the final after winning 6-2 against Anamaria Vladescu and Marta Ruszczynska of Fairleigh Dickinson.
