Women’s Golf Places Ninth at Delaware Invite to Conclude Fall Slate

Navy returns to action on March 1, 2020

REHOBOTH, Del. – The Navy women's golf team concluded its fall schedule with a ninth-place finish at the Delaware Invitational this weekend at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. The Midshipmen finished with a three-round total of 65-over par 929.
 
After posting its fifth sub-300 round of the season in the first round with an 11-over par 299, Navy carded its highest round of the year with a 29-over par 317 in the second round to move from fifth to 10th. The Midshipmen's 25-over par 313 moved them up a spot to place ninth overall in the 11-team field. 

"The team dug deep on Sunday, playing in steady rain and wind for all 18 holes," head coach Nadia Ste-Marie said. "It was a rough way to end the fall season but I am extremely proud of the team, showing a lot of grit and perseverance."
 
Tori Smith (So., Arlington, Tenn.) guided the Midshipmen with a 12-over par 228 for the weekend to finish tied for 22nd. She posted the lowest round of her career with an opening-round score of even-par 72. Over the final two rounds, Smith posted an 8-over par 80 and then a 4-over par 76.
 
Angelina Chan (Fr., Franklin, Tenn.) placed 34th overall in the 67-golfer field following her two-day total of 17-over par 233. Morgan Frazier (Sr., Mechanicsburg, Pa.) was a stroke behind in a tie for 35th with an 18-over par 234. Chan shot a 1-over par 73 but followed with a 10-over par 82 and a 6-over par 78. Frazier was the lone Mid to shoot in the 70s in each of the three rounds. The senior captain started the weekend with a 7-over par 79 and then carded a 5-over par 77. To finish the weekend, Frazier shot a 6-over par 78.
 
Shannon Gould (So., O'Fallon, Mo.) compiled a tournament score of 21-over par 237. Following two rounds on Saturday in the 70s at 5-over par 77 and 7-over par 78, Gould shot a 9-over par 81 on Sunday in the third round to place tied for 43rd.
 
Eve Worden (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) rounded out the Navy line up after finishing tied for 53rd with a 26-over par 242. Jacqueline Cherry (So., Ellicott City, Md.) competed as an individual for the Midshipmen and finished at 44-over par 260, which was 66th in the field.
 
Penn won the tournament after finishing with an even-par 864 as a team, which included the low round of the weekend with an 8-under par 280. The Quakers had the top-two finishers in the field with Susan Xiao winning medalist honors by nine strokes after a 7-under par 209.
 
Navy has now concluded its 2019 fall schedule and will be back in action on March 1, 2020, at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.
