ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The heavyweight and lightweight crews from Hubbard Hall will continue their fall competition schedule with racing at the 2019 Princeton Chase this Sunday morning. Starting with the Men's Heavyweight Eights event at 9 a.m., the Navy contingent will have six heavyweight crews in action, while the lightweights bring a quartet of crews that'll race twice. The lightweights will compete in the Men's Lightweight Eights at 10:00 a.m. before round two of the same event goes off at 11:45 a.m. to conclude the action. The head style racing event will take place on a three-mile stretch of Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.
Across the heavyweight, lightweight and women's races that are scheduled for Lake Carnegie on Sunday, 29 different colleges will be in action at the Princeton Chase. With six boats in their 9 a.m. race, the Mids' heavyweight team will go up against schools such as Columbia, Dartmouth, Drexel, Princeton, Penn, Saint Joseph's, Washington, Wisconsin and Yale. In total, there are 51 boats racing in the Men's Heavyweight Eights contest. The 10 a.m. Men's Lightweight Eights race has 31 boats representing 10 different schools, including Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and Penn. The field for the second lightweight eights race drops to 21 boats.
At the 2018 Princeton Chase, the Navy lightweights competed in three separate events: the Lightweight Eights, Freshmen Eights and Lightweight Fours. The Mids' first varsity crew led the way as it placed third amongst a field of 22 with a time of 13:24.458. Only Cornell and Princeton finished ahead of Navy. The heavyweights last competed at the Princeton Chase in 2017.Â
Spectators may watch the racing from the start located just off Route 27 (Nassau Street) at the Kingston end of the lake, the Harrison Street Bridge or at the Washington Road Bridge located near the Princeton boathouse.
